A fossilised wooden stump table

Category: Tables

Subcategory: Occasional Tables

Fossilised wood is a result of fallen trees, buried by volcanic ash or sediment, being starved of oxygen thereby delaying the decomposition process. Mineral-laden water then flows through depositing silicate on the wood gradually altering its composition from wood to a solid mineral over millenia.

This example is probably from America, late Triassic period (approx 230 million years ago)
