£24,000

Comprising seven blackbirds among grapes. Model 1-C, frosted and polished glass.

France, 1928

This panel (panel 38) was made in two sizes: 82cm x 72cm and 51cm x 42cm. The Nostalgie-Istanbul-Orient Express was lost for decades until the carriages were recently rediscovered in Poland extraordinarily with the help of Google Earth. These carriages were repatriated to Paris where they are now being restored and due to launch in 2024. This glass panel was originally part of that train and, as many, were removed from the train when it went out of service.

For reference, see lot 81 in Christie's Lalique sale on 22/05/2013 - the same rare model with seven blackbirds sold for £35,000.
