An extremely rare and early Cuban mahogany model 3758 'Red Chair' by Kaare Klint (1888 - 1954)

£8,800

The splayed upholstered backrest above a saddle seat all covered in the original studded Niger leather on profiled mahogany legs joined by stretchers.

Manufactured by Rud. Rasmussen. Bearing the original maker's label to the underside.

Designed in 1927. This model manufactured in Denmark, between 1927 and 1930.

On very few early models, like this chair, the frame itself was also covered in Niger leather. Early production runs were less rigidly standardised than later ones, and Klint was willing to adapt details where it did not undermine the chair's proportions or ergonomics. However, these adaptations were reserved for important commissions. One such example was a Red Armchair, with leather-covered frame and arms, designed for the Danish Prime Minister's Office in 1930.

Klint's father was a leading architect and Klint was immersed from a young age in the concepts of functional aesthetics - an ideology reflected in his mathematical approach to design. Klint is often called the founder of modern Danish design. He pioneered an approach that
prioritised the simple harmony of function alongside timeless form, producing a balance that influenced a generation of 20th-century designers. This dedication to exceptional pared-back craftsmanship is reflected in the quality and enduring appeal of his furniture.
