Condition: Minor breaks to the original rattan, now restored. Otherwise left in entirely original condition

Designed to fold away and hang on the wall, the JH512 chair is inspired by the Shakers, who hung their chairs on the wall when not in use - a neat, space-saving solution to the smaller apart- ments which were typical of the time. Wegner also took inspiration from the form of Mies van der Rohe's 1929 Barcelona Chair. However, it was important for Wegner that his design should be able to fold and also appeal to a more everyday clientele. Whereas the Barcelona chair was fused at the leg joints, Wegner reinstated the folding mechanism and chose to have it made in the softer, more domestic material of oak. In its original untouched condition, this chair is an icon of Wegner's work.
